Institute of Medical Ethics National Student Conference

Ethical Consideration in the Pursuit of Perfection

Saturday 27th February 2021, To be delivered via Zoom

We would like to invite you to attend the 2021 online national conference organised by the IME Student Council. The day is aimed at all students and foundation doctors with an interest in medical ethics, and with variety of workshops ranging encompassing clinical ethics, global health issues and ethical dilemmas in research, there will be something for everyone! We will also be showcasing your work in medical ethics through oral and poster presentations.

Key Note Speaker

Georgia Testa is the lead for medical ethics and law in Leeds Medical School.

Based in the Philosophy Department, Georgia has taught a number of different courses in Applied Ethics (Environmental Ethics, Ethics of War, and the Ethics of Life and Death). She is also the Director of Student Education for the School of Philosophy, Religion and History of Science.

From 2016-2019 she was the Chair of the IME’s Education Committee.



Workshops will be run twice and titles are as follows:

The Perfect Death - to be run by Janet Holt (University of Leeds)

The Perfect Medical Research - to be run by Rhona Bratt (Leeds West Research Ethics Committee)

The Perfect Patient Care - to be run by Lorraine Corfield (Keele University) 

The Perfect Healthcare Professional - to be run by Pirashanthie Vivekanada-Schmidt (Sheffield University)


When booking please select two workshops; workshops will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

Registration is now open (below). A £20 deposit is required to book your place however the deposit will be returned on attendance, making this a FREE conference!

Abstracts are invited for student speeches and posters at the event. Please submit your abstract at http://ime.datawareonline.co.uk/Abstract-Submission/Submission-Form
